Owner: Memphis – Shelby
County Airport Authority
Contract Amount: Approximately
$55 Million
Location: Memphis International
Airport, Memphis, TN
Description: This project consists
of the demolition and removal of existing concrete runway
and taxiways and the construction of a new concrete runway.
This new construction measured approximately 10,000 linear
feet in length and 150 feet in width, along with a 75 foot
wide concrete parallel taxiway and several concrete connecting
taxiways. Our portion of the project consisted of site and
pavement demolition, grading and drainage, subgrade preparation,
crushed aggregate and cement treated base, Portland cement
concrete pavement, and erosion control. Completion of this
project provided Federal Express the ability to take-off and
land fully loaded 647’s with zero ceiling and zero visibility.
This also allowed them to fly non-stop from the Midwest to
overseas locations.
To efficiently complete the project we utilized a mobile dual
drum concrete plant with high production rates. This allowed
us to complete the project on time, for this we were awarded
all completion date bonuses available.
